Norm
I first came to spend a year at Rugli in 1992 working with CRMF. After enjoying the experience I returned to New Zealand for a year to make preparations for returning full time and this I did in 1993. My home place is a little difficult to define. I was born and raised in Vancouver BC and immigrated to New Zealand in the '70s, where I worked in the telecommunications industry until my retrenchment in 1991. This allowed me to be free to come to CRMF in 1992. Now I have married an Australian but for the moment I am happy to call PNG home. I love to pull things apart and see how they work. Then I love to"normanize" them and make them work just a bit better. I am always challenged by equipment that no-one wants to bother fixing. What better place for God to place me than at CRMF where my skills fit - just right! On Sunday mornings Chris and I attend the Evangelical Brotherhood Church, which was begun by the Swiss missionaries. We also attend an American Baptist for World Evangelism church in Goroka on Sunday evenings. We are invloved in a Bible study each week for Teacher trainees which is held at the Goroka University Campus. ChristineOver a number of years I have made many visits to Papua New Guinea to visit missionary friends and to assist short-term with various projects. On one occasion I visited my "wantok" (relative) James Mollenhauer at Rugli in PNG. It was there I met Norman Turtle. In 1997 I spent 6 months in Goroka working as the office manager for CRMF. After that my visits to PNG were just to Goroka where Norm was based. Following our marriage in Dec 1999, I joined Norm in PNG in October 2000 when Norm commenced his third term of service with CRMF. Prior to coming to PNG, I was a secondary teacher for 27 years in Queensland and on leaving my position in 2000 I was the Head of the Technology Department at Hervey Bay High School. I am now the administrator at CRMF.
