| Back in 1946, Claude, Syd and Bob were drawn together in a remarkable way sensing that God had called them to use their combined talents and experience to further the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They began by making Children's Bible Adventure programs that were broadcast over some 150 radio stations in Australia and New Zealand. They also designed and build a radio transceiver that would assist missionaries who were located in remote areas. This latter project led to the setting up of a radio communications network in Papua New Guinea in 1956. For around 40 years CRMF was based at Rugli - 30 km north of Mt Hagen and in 1993 it became necessary to move to a town location. Goroka was selected and we began to set ourselves up using the Salvation Army Hall as our temporary operations center. At the end of 2001 CRMF moved to a purpose designed Communications Centre.
One of CRMF's key roles since the 1990's is that of training Papua New Guineans in technical trades. CRMF has been successful in training radio and electronics technicians and also an electrician. In 2002 the first female apprentice started learning to repair computers, having had no previous experience at all during her years of schooling in PNG.
Now that would have to be the shortest history lesson you have ever had. CRMF is not on about creating history, we are keen to create a future. |
