So how can you stay in touch with email where there are no phone or communication services? You will just need a computer, a radio-modem and a HF CODAN radio with antenna. As the schematic down below shows the remote PC will connect through a radio signal to the CRMF mailserver which is connected to the Internet.
The radio email transfer is working with a software especially programmed for HF email called “UUPlus“. Once installed and set up you can send and receive email with any ordinary email program like Outlook Express or Thunderbird.CRMF has 3 data radio modems (2 HF, 1 VHF) so 3 customers can do radio emailing at the same time. Customers have the possibility to connect through a phone-modem, satellite-phone or a VPN connection.

Compared to today’s fast broardband connections radio signal connections are very slow. But the UUPlus software still achieves a good throughput speed using a compressed, bi-directional data transfer. HF email works perfectly fine with pure text messages and even small pictures under 100K.
